Nancy Horan is an American author known for her historical fiction novels based on the lives of real historical figures. Born Nancy Ann King on May 1, 1953, in Washington, D.C., she grew up in Oak Park, Illinois. Horan earned a degree in English and journalism from Indiana University and later pursued graduate studies in English and creative writing at Southern Methodist University.

Before embarking on her career as a novelist, Horan worked as a journalist, editor, and teacher. She wrote for various publications, including newspapers and magazines, before shifting her focus to fiction writing.

Horan gained widespread acclaim with her debut novel, "Loving Frank" (2007), which tells the story of the passionate and scandalous relationship between architect Frank Lloyd Wright and his mistress, Mamah Borthwick Cheney. The novel was a New York Times bestseller and received numerous awards and nominations, including the James Fenimore Cooper Prize for Best Historical Fiction.

Following the success of "Loving Frank," Horan continued to write historical fiction novels inspired by real-life figures. Her second novel, "Under the Wide and Starry Sky" (2014), explores the love story between Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson and his American wife, Fanny Van de Grift Osbourne. Like her debut novel, "Under the Wide and Starry Sky" was also well-received by readers and critics alike.

In addition to her novels, Horan has contributed essays and articles to various publications. She is known for her meticulous research and attention to historical detail, which brings her characters and settings to life.
