Tips for creating an email account and downloading apps to your smartphone or tablet.

Overview

Using Your Email Account

To sign into your email account:

  • Open the email app or go to the email provider's website
  • Click "Sign In"
  • Enter your email username (for example: joemcmann12@yahoo.com)
  • Enter your password
  • If you have 2-factor authentication turned on, you'll get a code texted to your phone or there will be another step to verify that you're signing into your account

The Basic Elements of Your Email Account

  • Inbox: This is where new emails show up, as well as old emails you haven't deleted, archived, or moved to folders
  • Compose / New Message: To start writing an email, click on Compose, New Message, or the pencil icon
  • Subject / Body: Write a clear, simple subject, then write the body text of the email
  • Attachments: To attach a document, picture, or other file, click on the paperclip icon then find the file saved on your device
  • "To" Field / Contacts: Add your recipient's email address in the "To" field. You can save/import email addresses in Contacts
  • Drafts: If you started an email but didn't send it, check your Drafts folder
  • Search: Use the search bar to search for a specific name or topic
