Choosing an Email Provider

Each email provider will have a different look or layout, different amounts of free storage, and different special features. You can compare email providers to find one that's best for you!

Some options include: 

• Gmail
• iCloud
• Outlook
• ProtonMail
• Yahoo

Setting Up a New Email Account

First, you'll go to the email provider's website or open the email app on your device. If you need help downloading the email app, follow the instructions for Downloading Apps.

• Click on "Create account"
• Enter your information:
  • First name and last name
  • Email username 
  • Password
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Cell phone number 

Creating Usernames and Passwords

Your username = your email address. Create one that is: 

• Simple
• Easy to remember

Examples: 

• askwestwood@minlib.net
• janesmith22@gmail.com

Your password:

• Must be a certain length (for example: longer than 10 characters long)
• Must include a number or special characters/symbols (for example: ! % $)
